Newbery Honor-winning and #1 New York Times bestselling author Carl Hiaasen--beloved for his modern classics like Hoot and Chomp--delivers a wildly entertaining novel involving snakes, grizzlies, a missing dad, a menacing drone, and more!
Some facts about Billy Dickens:
* He once saw a biker swerve across the road in order to run over a snake.
* Later, that motorcycle somehow ended up at the bottom of a canal.
* Billy isn't the type to let things go.
Some facts about Billy's family:
* They've lived in six different Florida towns because Billy's mom insists on getting a house near a bald eagle nest.
* Billy's dad left when he was four and is a total mystery.
* Billy has just found his dad's address--in Montana.
This summer, Billy will fly across the country, hike a mountain, float a river, dodge a grizzly bear, shoot down a spy drone, save a neighbor's cat, save an endangered panther, and then try to save his own father.
Carl Hiaasen tells a wickedly funny, slightly twisted tale about families, figuring out what's really important, and knowing when (and when not) to let things go.

Billy Dickens isnât just a normal kid. He loves snakes so much . He catches them and then releases them back into the wild. Once he used his snake catching skills to scare the other kids at school. He put a snake in his locker because people used to mess with his stuff. But thatâs not it. His parents got divorced when he was little. He doesnât remember his dad so much. Then he travels to Minnesota where his dad apparently lives. When heâs there he finds out his dad now works for the government? If you think this book sounds good you should read it. Also this book has mild swears and some violence so I would rate it ages 10+ though if you are younger and think you can handle it go for it! I liked this book a lot because every chapter left off with a cliffhanger so if you like cliffhangers you should read this book.
âThis Summer, Billy dickens will fly across the country, hike a mountain, float a river, dodge a grizzly bear, shoot down a spy drone, save a neighbourâs cat, save an endangered panther, and then try to save his own father.â As soon as I saw these words I knew this was the book for me. And I was right! I love Carl Hiaasenâs books, he is such a creative writer and I loved Billy, his sister Belinda, and his mom who was this weird obsession was eagles, and his dad who has this super dangerous catching poachers job and Little Thunder-sky, âLilâ for short, and lastly, my favourite, Summer. Sheâs Lilâs daughter and also Billyâs fatherâs daughter. You should definetely read this book!
