Recalling the fiction of Harper Lee and Carson McCullers, here is a funny, poignant, and utterly genuine first novel from a major new talent.
The summer Opal and her father, the preacher, move to Naomi, Florida, Opal goes into the Winn-Dixie supermarket--and comes out with a dog. A big, ugly, suffering dog with a sterling sense of humor. A dog she dubs Winn-Dixie. Because of Winn-Dixie, the preacher tells Opal ten things about her absent mother, one for each year Opal has been alive. Winn-Dixie is better at making friends than anyone Opal has ever known, and together they meet the local librarian, Miss Franny Block, who once fought off a bear with a copy of WAR AND PEACE. They meet Gloria Dump, who is nearly blind but sees with her heart, and Otis, an ex-con who sets the animals in his pet shop loose after hours, then lulls them with his guitar.Opal spends all that sweet summer collecting stories about her new friends and thinking about her mother. But because of Winn-Dixie or perhaps because she has grown, Opal learns to let go, just a little, and that friendship--and forgiveness--can sneak up on you like a sudden summer storm.

This book book was funny and a bit weird but it stands out from other books.
This Book was sad and funny, When opal Or somthing when she asked her dad about her mom I asked my dad about my mom because this story is almost like my life
Classic books are the best because they're unique and heartwarming but not all of them have happy endings. Because of Winn-Dixie? It's a classic and has a happy ending but it doesn't start out happy. Opals life wasn't a fairy tale where everything was perfect and in the end true love waits for you. You see, Opal had no friends where she lived, her dad was always busy preaching, and her mom left her at an early age. But that all changed when she met stray dog later known as Winn-Dixie. Winn-Dixie dosn't have the looks but does have a big heart! It's because of Winn-Dixie, Opal found friends, it's because of Winn-Dixie Opal found the courage to ask her dad about her mom, it's because of Winn-Dixie she isn't lonely anymore. I love this book a lot and I hope you will will too!
This story is about a Florida girl named Opal, and her dog Win Dixie. It is such a charming, descriptive story about a girl and her dog. It is the story that lasts forever in your heart, building a nest in it that is cozy and fuzzy.
I love this book. I have read it so many times!
I really like this book and it's like the fifth time I've read it. It is so good and it's not that long, so I finished it in like one day. (Though not everyone will) I like Winn-Dixie, and that Opal got to meet so many more people and make new friends because of Winn-Dixie. I totally recommend this book!
This is a really good book! It is about a girl named Opal who finds a stray dog. She really loves the stray dog, so she takes care of it. But then it goes missing and then a lot of bad things happen. You should really try it out!
I LOVED THIS BOOK!! It's super original, and in my entire life, I've never read a book like this. I also read it in my class! Seemed popular through that!
