Newbery Medal winner Kelly Barnhill spins a wondrously different kind of fairy-tale: In most fairy tales, princesses are beautiful, dragons are terrifying, and stories are harmless. But this isn't most fairy tales...

Princess Violet is plain, reckless, and quite possibly too clever for her own good. Particularly when it comes to telling stories. One day she and her best friend, Demetrius, stumble upon a hidden room and find a peculiar book. A forbidden book. It tells a story of an evil being, called the Nybbas, imprisoned in their world. The story cannot be true--not really. But then the whispers start. Violet and Demetrius, along with an ancient, scarred dragon-the last dragon in existence, in fact-may hold the key to the Nybbas's triumph or its demise. It all depends on how they tell the story. After all, stories make their own rules.

Iron Hearted Violet is a story about the power of stories, our belief in them, and how one enchanted tale changed the course of an entire kingdom.

this book looks good i want to read it sooooooo bad.

Iron Hearted Violet is a whimsical tale of a princess who isn't afraid to step out side the box others put her in and read in between the lines. Though in this case, it isn't some innocent text but a forbidden book that has the power to destroy her world. Violet's story, narrated by an old friend, is the opposite of how we imagine princess' lives should be. She doesn't have beauty, she doesn't care about class (especially with her poor best friend) and cares more about adventure than sitting around waiting for others to fight for her. This is a daring tale about a girl overcoming her labels as a princess and fighting for her kingdom.

this book looks scary,. boooooooooo.

Sure its scary...

This book looks really cool. I just bought it right away~!

Iron Hearted Violet is a great book. It is full of magic, war, love, and an imprisoned evil god... Violet is a young princess, but not like you might expect. She is not "beautiful". Violet has never been bothered by this, but soon the evil god (who's name must not be spoken) works his way into her mind. By means of the castle's mirrors, Violet becomes possessed and is taken over by the god, who changes her looks. She is able to break free, but the god has now taken over others and will soon break free of it's bonds. How can one girl, her friend, and a dragon save the world? Well, I read this book and found out. I really liked the ending, it was a satisfying one. This book keeps you turning pages until the very last, and I would definitely recommend it to anyone who likes adventure and other-worldly books.

I really enjoyed reading this book. I would reccomend it to anyone who likes to challenge themselves with reading harded books. I would also recommend it to people who like adventure, intensity, and mystery. :)

Iron Hearted Violet is a book set in a world very similar to ours, but with dragons, gods, and a mirrored sky. It is about a young princess and her best friend Demetrius that find a forbidden book. The forbidden book tells the story of the Nybbas. The Nybbas is an evil god that is trying to escape from captivity. With the help of a storyteller and the last dragon alive, Violet and Demetrius must defeat the Nybbas and save the world. I like this book because it was different from other books with princesses in them. In this book, the princess is the one that is saving everyone, instead of having someone save her. I also found it interesting that the author decided to write the book in the perspective of an old man (the storyteller) instead of Violet or Demetrius, even though Violet and Demetrius are the main characters. It was something I have never seen before, but I think it's actually a really good way of writing. I recommend this book to anyone who likes fantasy books with things like dragons, myths, and other worlds.
