Twelve-year-old Percy Jackson is about to be kicked out of boarding school... again. No matter how hard he tries, he can't seem to stay out of trouble. But can he really be expected to stand by and watch while a bully picks on his scrawny best friend? Or not defend himself against his pre-algebra teacher when she turns into a monster and tries to kill him? Of course, no one believes Percy about the monster incident; he's not even sure he believes himself. Until the Minotaur chases him to summer camp. Suddenly, mythical creatures seem to be walking straight out of the pages of Percy's Greek mythology textbook and into his life. The gods of Mount Olympus, he's coming to realize, are very much alive in the twenty-first century. And worse, he's angered a few of them: Zeus's master lightning bolt has been stolen, and Percy is the prime suspect. Now Percy has just ten days to find and return Zeus's stolen property, and bring peace to a warring Mount Olympus. On a daring road trip from their summer camp in New York to the gates of the Underworld in Los Angeles, Percy and his friends -- one a satyr and the other the demigod daughter of Athena -- will face a host of enemies determined to stop them. To succeed on his quest, Percy will have to do more than catch the true thief: he must come to terms with the father who abandoned him; solve the riddle of the Oracle, which warns him of failure and betrayal by a friend; and unravel a treachery more powerful than the gods themselves.

so I read this book at school for a book club and I loved it I had read all the other books except for this one because I saw the movie first so I didn't want to read this book so I never did. Well, I really loved the book after 150 because then I started to get really good by this. The story at the start is ok but not half as good as the ending and middle. The plot is like this Percy Jackson is a normal kid or at least he thinks he is. Percy Jackson the gets to attack and goes home from his charter school when he gets home he talks to his mom and she says they can go to a cabin for a vacation. Percy has no idea who his dad is. When he is on his way there then... read the rest to find out P.S. do your self a favor and read the book even if you have watched the movie you will love it no matter the age.

The Lightning Thief is a book that keeps the reader wanting more. 12 year old Percy Jackson was on a school field trip when a chaperone, Ms. Dodds, turns into a Fury. She tries to attack Percy. Mr. Brunner then gives Percy a sword pen to fight of the Fury. Later Percy friend who is a satyr tells him and his mom that they are in danger. A Minotaur attacks and takes Percy's mom. He thinks she is dead. He then finds himself at a summer camp called Camp Half-Blood. He discovers he is half human and half god. Percy is then tasked with finding Zeus lighting bolt and saving the world before its to late.

hello hello

I think that this is a good book for 4th graders because the book is really interesting also the movie movie is better than the book.

I think the book is AWSOME! Infact riordans book inspired me to study greek myths! Theres mystery, humor, and fantasy all Mixed into one book, and all its talking about is restoring Zeus's lightning bolt! AMAZING!

This is a really great and challenging book. The author uses great descriptive words to help you image the pictures of the story in your head because, there's hardly any pictures drawn in this book.

Probably my favorite book(s) of all time. It is hilarious and fun, with some mystery and adventure, all following Demigod Percy Jackson on his quest to restore Zeus's lightning bolt.
