Twelve-year-old Percy Jackson is about to be kicked out of boarding school... again. No matter how hard he tries, he can't seem to stay out of trouble. But can he really be expected to stand by and watch while a bully picks on his scrawny best friend? Or not defend himself against his pre-algebra teacher when she turns into a monster and tries to kill him? Of course, no one believes Percy about the monster incident; he's not even sure he believes himself. Until the Minotaur chases him to summer camp. Suddenly, mythical creatures seem to be walking straight out of the pages of Percy's Greek mythology textbook and into his life. The gods of Mount Olympus, he's coming to realize, are very much alive in the twenty-first century. And worse, he's angered a few of them: Zeus's master lightning bolt has been stolen, and Percy is the prime suspect. Now Percy has just ten days to find and return Zeus's stolen property, and bring peace to a warring Mount Olympus. On a daring road trip from their summer camp in New York to the gates of the Underworld in Los Angeles, Percy and his friends -- one a satyr and the other the demigod daughter of Athena -- will face a host of enemies determined to stop them. To succeed on his quest, Percy will have to do more than catch the true thief: he must come to terms with the father who abandoned him; solve the riddle of the Oracle, which warns him of failure and betrayal by a friend; and unravel a treachery more powerful than the gods themselves.

Percy Jackson has a secret that he would not dare to tell (almost) anyone. He has to save the world from danger, and save his mother. He likes to swim, mainly because he can hold his breath for a long time. I would definetly read this book again because it involves people that also share his secret...

this was the first book by rick Riordan that i ever read. it is pretty good. my favorite scene is when he first came to the camp and had a fight in the bathroom and the toilets exploded! it was a very good first book in a very unexpected series.

In the book Percy jackson and the lightning thief Percy finds out that he is half god and his dad is posiedon the god of the sea. Percy was taken out of bording school to go to the school that the half gods go to. But a problem came when he was at school. Zeus lighting bolt had been stolen. When he finds who stole it. It was his friend Luke. In the end Percy brings back the lightning bolt and brings peace.

This is such a cool way to learn about mythology! It's a very compelling story with a lot of excitement and suspense. I will definitely continue reading this author's work!

The Lightning Thief is a GREAT book that everyone ages 10 and up should read if they like adventure, fantasy, and mysteries. You will not be let down by this book!

The book is great for me, but not that great, but I really understand and got into Greek Mythology because of this!

Twelve year old Percy Jackson doesn't know that his real father is Poseidon, God of the Seas. All he knows is that his father is gone. Soon is finds trouble with a mythological creature, a Fury, and is sent to Camp Half-Blood, the only safe place for half-bloods (demigods) like him. Along the way his mother gets abducted by a Minotaur and gets sent to Hades. Then he finds out the prime suspect of the case of Zeus's stolen Lighting Bolt. But he didn't steal it. Luke Castellan did. But Hades wants it and he also thinks Percy has it. And he gives Percy a deal: the bolt for his mother. So he goes all around the world and he collects pearls so he can his mother out and tell Hades he doesn't have the bolt. Hades is furious but finds the bolt in the shield Luke gave him. Then Persephone Hades's "wife" grabs the bolt knocks Hades unconscious and lets all but Grover leave. But Grover gets out later.

I love how this book shows the Greek gods in a modern style and what their children would be like in this in this age. Rick Riorden put in so many details on how complicated the family tree can be and how the child rivalries from all of the Greek myths could be like.

this is an awesome book! its a great way to get lost in the world of greek mythology!

This book was really good! I used to not care about Greek mythology at all, but now I love it! All the gods and Camp Half Blood and Percy and Grover and Annabeth, it's all so good! I totally recommend it!
