Uglies is a book set 300 years in the future where people have an operation at the age of 16 to become a "pretty." Up until that point everyone is an "ugly." This book and the others in the series have become a few of my all time favorite books! I love the way Scott Westerfeld uses descriptive language! I often found myself rereading passages just to enjoy the poetry of his words! The theme of the book is one that really makes the reader think. It makes you wonder if you would like living in a world like this and what you would do if you were one of the characters. I highly recommend this book to students and adults!

Great dystopian fiction series chronicling the downfalls of a society attempting to obtain perfection.

This book sounds good, but what age would it be okay to read this book is it appropriate? I know im ok to read it but some 11-12 friends think it sounds good.

I read it when I was ten, and I think that they're appropriate for eleven or twelve year olds.

I think you should definitely read it! Tell your friends that if they don't mind a little romance, especially in the second book, they should try it, too.

Tally Youngblood wants to become Pretty. But with the problems she faces, can she ever be a Pretty? More action than romance so, I think 11- whatever age can read it. I'm a little to busy to read Pretties so yeah.

im reading every one else's comments and now I Really want to read it! the only thing im worried about is how scary the book is.

this book is amazing! it's about a girl named Tally who dreams of the day to turn pretty and not be uglie, but her new best friend she meets doesn't want to turn pretty and wants to stay an uglie to do whatever she wants so she can have her freedom. But tally keeps asking her to stay because shay is going to run away. but it doesn't work and shay runs away. the people to help her turn pretty won't turn her pretty because they want to know where shay went but tally won't tell them. and tally know. so if she doesn't tell them about it she can't turn pretty ever. so is she going to turn in her best friend or not tell them and never turn pretty ever...

This book is a great book! It teaches you a good lesson. The lesson is to be yourself and don't change yourself because of other people. So if you doubt yourself you need to read this book and you will be a different person. You are beautiful in every single way and words can't bring you down.

I heard that this book was really good and a bit scary. It seems very interesting and i look forward to reading it.

This amazing story is about a girl named Tally Youngblood, and all she wants is to be pretty. She lives in a society where when you turn 16 you get a surgery which makes you supermodel pretty. Everyone can't wait to get the surgery, except Tally's new friend, Shay. Tally is shocked and doesn't think Shay is serious until she shows up one night in Tally's window. She tells Tally of her plan to run away to a hidden camp for people who don't want to be pretty. Tally refuses to leave. The day when Tally is supposed to be pretty, they take her to special circumstances, and they refuse to turn Tally pretty until she finds the secret camp and exploits it. Tally has no choice, but when she arrives she realizes she likes it and doesn't want to be pretty. Then she learns the horrible truth of the operation, and it changes her life forever...

This book is really well written and I think everyone else should read it. It's about this girl who lives in a city where when you turn 16, you get an operation to make you 'pretty'. But when something goes wrong and she cannot have the operation until she finishes a seemingly impossible task, she is forced to go out into the wild.
