dude they completed the mission all though the astroid would not even come close to the earth the gole was to hit the astroid to see if they could do this in the future to save earth when one actually hit earth

ok just to clarify to everyone so they stop being difficult, the astroid never would have hit earth or done anything it would have just went past and nothing would happen. {Ok?} and why they hit the astroid is becuse they wanted to see if it was possibel to hit one and send it off corse becuse if an astroid was going to hit earth in like 2000 years then we would have the tecnolighy
