The extraordinary #1 New York Times bestseller that is now a major motion picture, Markus Zusak's unforgettable story is about the ability of books to feed the soul.

It is 1939. Nazi Germany. The country is holding its breath. Death has never been busier, and will become busier still.

Liesel Meminger is a foster girl living outside of Munich, who scratches out a meager existence for herself by stealing when she encounters something she can’t resist–books. With the help of her accordion-playing foster father, she learns to read and shares her stolen books with her neighbors during bombing raids as well as with the Jewish man hidden in her basement.

In superbly crafted writing that burns with intensity, award-winning author Markus Zusak, author of I Am the Messenger, has given us one of the most enduring stories of our time.

This book was amazing especially how the author made death the narrarator. I hate how Rudy dies at the end though.

The best and most devastating part of the book is when Liesel kisses Rudy's dead body!! It's so awful and wonderful, when she's telling him that she loves him and calls him Jesse Owens! It's so terrific; Rudy's my favorite character, and it's so that he never gets to kiss Liesel. I can hardly even hear the name "Rudy" without choking up! :')

Wow, the character Liesel is wonderful. She loves to read and must steal to read because of the insanity of Nazi Germany. I would have tried to find books just as hard as Liesel if I had been in her situation. One of the best things is that Liesel was denied being able to read as a younger child and then when she begins to thirst for knowledge she doesn't stop reaching for books.

People tell me that it's a really good book. From thier comments and recommendations I'm already in love with this book!

This book was interesting and exiting. I loved the overall plot, but the ending almost made me cry. I recommend this book for great readers who like historical fiction. , chocolatemouse

This is a wonderful book! I would HIGHLY suggest it!

I loved this book!!!!!!!!! It will touch your heart. BEWARE: This book will make you cry. You will become friends with the characters throughout the book. I definitely recommend this book.

An interesting book told from the perspective of Death in Nazi Germany. Death becomes strangely fascinated with a little girl named Liesel and the life she lives.

By far one of the best books that I have read. This book will make you think about life and how one never knows what he has until he no longer allowed to have it an more,

I am currently reading this book and i LOVE it! The narrator is "death" and frankly he's hilarious! This is unlike any book I have ever read. It is about a foster kid living in Germany during WW2.

This book is AMAZING. The plot of the book is so unexpected and unique that you almost never want to read another book again. The way the narrator tells the story makes you love the characters like you've never felt before. The characters are lovable, and they all have some sort of part in the story. Everything in the book happens for a reason, and you really have to read the book carefully. The book is filled with irony, and funny lines. This book will NOT disappoint.
