Twelve-year-old Percy Jackson is about to be kicked out of boarding school... again. No matter how hard he tries, he can't seem to stay out of trouble. But can he really be expected to stand by and watch while a bully picks on his scrawny best friend? Or not defend himself against his pre-algebra teacher when she turns into a monster and tries to kill him? Of course, no one believes Percy about the monster incident; he's not even sure he believes himself. Until the Minotaur chases him to summer camp. Suddenly, mythical creatures seem to be walking straight out of the pages of Percy's Greek mythology textbook and into his life. The gods of Mount Olympus, he's coming to realize, are very much alive in the twenty-first century. And worse, he's angered a few of them: Zeus's master lightning bolt has been stolen, and Percy is the prime suspect. Now Percy has just ten days to find and return Zeus's stolen property, and bring peace to a warring Mount Olympus. On a daring road trip from their summer camp in New York to the gates of the Underworld in Los Angeles, Percy and his friends -- one a satyr and the other the demigod daughter of Athena -- will face a host of enemies determined to stop them. To succeed on his quest, Percy will have to do more than catch the true thief: he must come to terms with the father who abandoned him; solve the riddle of the Oracle, which warns him of failure and betrayal by a friend; and unravel a treachery more powerful than the gods themselves.

This is literally my favorite book series... I mean I actually like it better than Harry Potter. I think Rick Riordan is a better than J.K Rowling but she IS fabulous and that is just my personal opinion

This is a good book for all ages. Rick Riordan's books are fun and interesting. While they are funny, they also teach the reader about mythology- Greek, Roman, Norse, and Egyptian.

Love Rick Riordan books and Harry Potter This was the book that made me like Riordan books

I LOVE THIS BOOK!!!!!! i love Percy Jackson its the best series, at my school my friends and i have a war between Percy Jackson and Harry Potter. We bring our books to recess and note books and we talk about which one is better, most of my friends have Percy Jackson side because we said that Greek gods came before wizards. But, I still do agree that Harry Potter is good, i just prefer Percy Jackson.

So far, I really enjoy this book about Percy Jackson. It reminds me so much of Harry Potter! It’s a fantasy, and is similar on how Percy is explained. I will recommend this book. On a scale of 1 to 10, I will rate this book around 8 and 9, maybe reaching the tens. Although I will never be in love with a series like Harry Potter and The Warriors series, this book is climbing to a high place in book series!

This is the first book in the Percy Jackson series. It's about this boy named Percy Jackson who finds out that his father is the Greek god Poseidon .so then all these monsters stared attacking him because they think he stole Zeus's lighting bolt, but he didn't. so he has to find out who did it so he can return it to Zeus. and restore his( and so he won't get killed by monsters).

Percy is SO close to finishing a year of school without getting expelled when he accidentally kills his math teacher who turns out to be a harpy. He is taken to Camp Half-Blood where he learns he's the son of Poseidon, Zeus's lighting bolt was stolen and everyone thinks he stole it, and his mom get a killed. Well, almost. Percy, Grover and Annabeth-the beautiful daughter of Athena-set out on a quest to find the lightning bolt, return it to Zeus, and save Percy's mom. And in the middle of all this, a prophecy about the destruction of Mt. Olympus rides on the Percy's shoulders. This book was terrifying and thrilling at the same time and once I started reading, I couldn't stop!

The movie is nothing compared to the book. It captivated me, and I could not put it down once I started. The Lightning Thief is a humorous, adventurous, and exciting novel of a boy whose ordinary life is turned upside down when he learns he is the son of a Greek God.

The lightning theif was a great book. I rate it 5 stars, because of the increasing suspense, the specific words, and a lot of details. I would recommend this series if you like Greek mythology and talking back to your friends. The book itself takes about 3-4 hours to read.
