Surfing is one of the most addictive sports in the world. It is also, amongst the most restrictive - For not only do you need to live close to an ocean, but also, have ample free time to hang around for that perfect wave - Unless of course, you are Tarp Surfing!
While this new extreme activity that involves riding a skateboard inside a tarp that is being swooshed around like 'waves', takes skateboarding to a new level, it also brings the sport closer to its origins
That's because skateboarding was started by bored surfers who were trying to figure out how to get a thrilling ride when the waves were flat - In fact, when it first started 50 years ago, it was called sidewalk surfing!
Tarp Surfing is not a new sport. First introduced in the early 1990's it never really caught on, mainly because skateboards were not very sophisticated. The sport has lately experienced a resurgence, partly due to better boards, but largely due to a spoof video featuring professional surfers, Nic Lamb, Omar Etcheverry and Homer Henard - Tarp Surfing.
Viewed by over 1.5 million people in less than a month, the video has received such an enthusiastic response from fans, that the trio have established a website dedicated to the sport, and rumor has it that tarp sales have gone through the roof!
What are you waiting for? Get a tarp, grab your skateboard, recruit some pals and ride the new wave!
